Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, AWHONN Advanced EFM Must-Have: Must
have at least 1 year of LDRP experience. Preferably possesses 3
years of experience in this setting. Candidates with L&D only
and OR circulating experience will be considered, but candidates
with only postpartum experience will not be accepted. Description:
Candidates must be capable of delivering a newborn. The unit
consists of 2 Labor and Delivery rooms, 7 LDRP beds, and 4-8
overflow postpartum beds. There is 1 OR suite for C-sections and a
NICU with 2 beds for newborn stabilization. The unit experiences
70-80 births a month, averaging 60-70 NST antepartum tests monthly.
Ratios followed are 1:2 in Labor, 1:1 at delivery, and 1:4 for
Mother/Baby couplets. Common diagnoses include patients 35 weeks
and above. The unit may handle twin deliveries, while preterm
patients under 35 weeks are transferred to higher levels of care.
RNs are required to titrate drips, including Pitocin and
occasionally insulin. A charge nurse or nurse shift manager is
available on every shift. The charge nurse preferably does not take
an assignment but may do so if required. There are no nurse aids or
surgical techs scheduled in this unit, except for one OB Technician
per shift. An OB is present in-house 24/7, with access to a
perinatal specialist to address neonatal complications. Anesthesia
is not in-house 24/7 but is on-call and can respond within 20
minutes. If patients have an epidural, anesthesia remains in-house
throughout the duration. Respiratory therapy is present at every
delivery, providing necessary support and equipment management. The
equipment utilized includes ventilators, CPAP, and bubble CPAP
machines. There are no tele/monitor technicians on this unit, and
nurses must take ACLS training. If a patient receives general
anesthesia, recovery takes place in the main recovery area. RNs are
required to work 2 weekend shifts within a 4-week schedule,
including nights on Fridays and Saturdays and day shifts on
Saturdays and Sundays. Holiday shifts are rotated with core staff.
There may be on-call or standby requirements during scheduled
shifts, with a 30-minute response time. RNs may float to other
facilities as required. Scheduling is done 4 weeks in advance. The
hospital reserves the right to cancel up to 4 shifts during a
13-week assignment. Charting is performed using a specified
electronic health record system. A BSN degree is not required.
Trauma level is considered within the acute care setting. Nursing
staff operates on a 12-hour night shift schedule. Required
certifications include ACLS, Advanced Fetal Monitoring, BLS, and
