Department: Pulmonary Function Shift: Primarily Days (United
States of America) Employee Type: Regular - Per Diem Per Diem Type
(if applicable): Non-RN Per Diem 1 Minimum Pay Range: $43.87 -
$52.64 Job Description: POSITION SUMMARY In addition to
requirements of a Respiratory Care Practitioner position, the
Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) Technician has attained
proficiency in advanced non-invasive diagnostic evaluation of
pulmonary function in patients with respiratory insufficiencies for
use by physician, nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant in
the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary disorders. Performs safe
and effective therapeutic, diagnostic and monitoring respiratory
services, ensuring the safe operation, calibration, maintenance and
quality control of Pulmonary Function equipment used. In addition,
the PFT Technician provides educational in-services to hospital and
clinical staff, as needed. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensure/Certification: Current California Respiratory
Care Practitioner (RCP) license required. Current Basic Life
Support (BLS) certification from the American Red Cross or American
Heart Association required. Current Certified Pulmonary Function
Test Technician (CPFT)/Registered Pulmonary Function Test
Technician (RPFT) credential from the National Board for
Respiratory Care or attempted certification within 6 months of
accepting the position. Certification must be achieved within 9
months of accepting the position is required. Advanced Cardiac Life
Support (ACLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) recommended, but
not required. Knowledge: Must be knowledgeable about all aspects of
respiratory care. Awareness of hazards within the department,
adherence to safety standard established by the organization and
other regulatory agencies. Ability to understanding and operate
required equipment and information systems. Skills: Good computer
skills required. Ability to maintain and calibrate various PFT
equipment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
Strong analytical and organizational abilities necessary to perform
multiple diagnostic tasks required. Must use independent judgment,
creativity and initiative to adapt to patient needs. Ability to
work with adult elderly patients in a multi-culturally sensitive
manner. Proficiency in all technical and interpersonal competencies
as determined by the PFT leadership. Must maintain a high standard
of professionalism at all times.
