location)Position DescriptionJob SummaryUnder the general
supervision of the Director of Student Involvement and receiving
work-lead direction from the Assistant Director for Campus
Programming and Leadership Development, the Leadership Development
Coordinator provides leadership, direction, and support for a
comprehensive leadership development program for a wide range of
the SJSU student community: all students interested in exploring
and developing their leadership skills, general members of
recognized student organizations (including Fraternity and Sorority
organizations), and recognized student organization officers. The
incumbent will be responsible for facilitating and implementing
workshops, providing group and individual leadership consultations
and advising, co-coordinating student organization development and
recognition, and supporting other campus-wide student leadership
development initiatives. As a member of the Student Involvement
staff and the Division of Student Affairs, the incumbent will also
support large-scale campus-wide programs and general programs and
initiatives as assigned.Key Responsibilities
- Develop a comprehensive leadership development program
inclusive to SJSU's diverse student population which includes
leadership course development, workshops, group and individual
leadership consultations and advising, and supporting other
campus-wide student leadership development training
initiatives.
- Lead the planning and implementation of multiple leadership
workshops throughout the academic year.
- Outreach to campus and community partners to participate and
serve as guest speakers in leadership workshops and
conferences.
- Identify and connect SJSU students to leadership opportunities
both on and off campus.
- Provide ongoing advising to students who need support with
Leadership Development.
- Align leadership programs to be consistent and in alignment
with the Leadership Programs CAS (Council for the Advancement of
Standards in Higher Education) standards. Collect data and
assessment for all student leadership programs.
- Lead and coordinate an annual campus-wide Fall leadership
experience for SJSU students.
- Provide direction, hiring/interviewing, training, and support
for student assistant employee(s). Ensure students are managing
social media, advertising/marketing, assisting with program
planning and development, logistics, follow-through and other tasks
as assigned to support the overall programmatic mission of Student
Involvement.
- Oversee the overall planning of the annual Student Leadership
Awards Gala and serve as co-chair for the campus-wide working
committee with Student Engagement Coordinator for Recognized
Student Organizations.
- Serve on MOSAIC Cross Cultural Center's Leadership Today (3-day
leadership retreat) working committee with other SJSU students,
staff, and faculty (i.e., MOSAIC Cross Cultural Center, Residential
Life, Solidarity Network, etc.).
- Serve as the Student Involvement staff representative for the
Student Elections Commission.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of major
campus-wide programs as part of the Campus Programming & Leadership
Development cluster within Student Involvement (i.e., Finals
Programming, Spartan Speaker Series, Weeks of Welcome, Homecoming
Week, etc.).
- Market events and programs via SJSU programming platforms,
printed material, social media, etc.
- Support the Student Engagement Team with leadership development
and recognition of student organizations through the Spring student
organization training recognition process and/or other leadership
development workshops throughout the academic year. Topics
including but not limited to: successful student organization
transition, community building, individual and group dynamics,
conflict management, etc.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of leadership development theories and best
practices.
- Knowledge of student supervisory best practices to aid in
growth and development of student staff.
- Thorough knowledge of program development and
implementation.
- Ability to connect social justice to leadership
development.
- Ability to advise students individually and in groups.
- General knowledge of principles of individual and group
behavior.
- Knowledge of student transition and student development
theories.
- Ability to take initiative in creating new and evolving
leadership programming for a diverse SJSU community.
- Ability to initiate, plan, implement, and evaluate events as
well as ongoing programmatic efforts.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty and
staff in a wide variety of university committees, departments
and/or student organizations to develop and implement programmatic
initiatives.
- Knowledge of student leader recruitment and selection
processes.
- Skilled in developing trainings and workshops for
students.
- Ability to work well with a highly diverse population of
students, faculty, and staff.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to leverage resources and staff from across the campus
to plan and implement programs.
- Knowledge of understanding and applying learning outcomes.
- Skilled in various Microsoft and Google programs.
- Ability to handle multiple work priorities and projects.
- Ability to have independent judgment and specialized
analysis.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and present relevant findings to
inform program improvements.
- Ability to communicate with constituents in a professional and
respectful manner.Required Qualifications
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university
in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or
graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and
conflict resolution where such are job-related.
- Three years of progressively responsible professional student
services work experience. A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical
Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be
substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the
appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or
guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for
positions with a major responsibility for professional career or
personal counseling.Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Student Affairs/higher education,
counseling, public administration or other related field.
- Experience with supporting and advising students on a college
campus.
- Experience with programming and event planning.
- Experience facilitating and presenting workshops and leadership
trainings.
- Experience collaborating with campus
partners.CompensationClassification: Student Services Professional
IIIAnticipated Hiring Range: $5,540/monthCSU Salary Range:
